Disney Plus went live this week and immediately picked up over 10 million subscribers on its first day. This is a massive amount that exceeded even the Mouse’s own expectations. It’s not surprising considering the streaming service offers a stunning amount of content both modern and classic.

This writer subscribed to the Disney+ bundle which includes ESPN+ and the basic Hulu service. At $12.99 per month, it offers a great option for cordcutters on a budget. Let’s take a closer look at our first impressions of Disney Plus. It just might be the perfect streaming option for your household.

The Disney Plus Bundle and Regular Pricing Options

The monthly fee for Disney+ is $6.99. For this price you receive access to over 500 movies and 7,500 TV shows. Many mobile providers, including Verizon are offering Disney+ for free to subscribers of their unlimited data services. Keep this in mind before signing up for the Disney streaming service.

Current subscribers to ESPN+ and Hulu really need to check out the Disney Plus bundle. Since the bundle’s monthly price is 12.99, you are effectively getting Disney+ for $2 per month. Make sure you use the same email address for each account as noted below.

This writer already subscribes to ESPN+, but my wife subscribes to Hulu using her email address. This means her Hulu subscription amount isn’t deducted from our monthly bill from Disney, like my ESPN+ subscription. It ends up being the same monthly outlay once she cancels Hulu, but at the loss of her large programming queue.

Bundling gets more complex when considering any promotional deals for all three services. Disney Plus provides a robust FAQ section detailing the complexities of their bundle. The bottom line is simple: use the same email address for all three services for the fewest issues.

Disney Plus Content and Features

As noted above, 500 movies and 7,500 TV shows is a lot of content. This writer already watched the first episode the latest Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian. The first episode of the Imagineering documentary series takes a look at genesis of Disneyland. Both were great.

The vast worlds of Star Wars, Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Disney themselves lie at your fingertips. The layout of the Disney+ portal makes browsing and finding content a breeze. It’s an elegant user interface design.

Everything looked and sounded brilliant on our 4K TV and 5.1 sound system. Installing the Disney+ app on our Roku and Sony Bravia smart TV was simple. Disney Plus also works within a browser, mobile app, or most other streaming devices.

Check closely for compatibility with your specific smart TV model. Some older models don’t work. Here is Disney’s list of their supported streaming devices. Also note that Disney+ allows streaming to four simultaneous devices.

How Much Internet Speed do I Need for Disney Plus?

Since Disney offers many movies and shows in 4K, remember that at least 25 Mbps of Internet speed is a requirement. For their HD content, you need at least 5 Mbps. Both numbers increase if you are streaming to more than one device at a time.

Be sure to perform regular speed tests to ensure you get the bandwidth you deserve. If you need to find a new ISP, enter your ZIP code to see the best options in your area. Call us at 800-990-0017 if you have any questions. We’re here to help!
